 Arizona
Parrot Head Club
The
Arizona Parrot Head Club's purpose
is to assist in community outreach programs and to provide members with a
means of social interaction.
We're like one huge family and we're phocused on phun.
We are extremely proud of our membership and when we "Party
with a Purpose" it always benefits those in need.
Our future looks bright and we are looking forward to growing our
membership!

Arizona
is known for 3 things: the
Grand Canyon, our "dry heat" and the Arizona Parrot Head Club
in
Phoenix
. We have been
"Partying with a Purpose" since 1994 when Marlene Buffa
started the Club. By 1995
there were 25 members and now we are the 8th largest Club in the nation
now with almost 500 Partying Parrot Heads.
We have Happy Hours twice a month at different locations, and our
Club meetings also rotate around the Valley of the Sun.
Usually we have 50/50 raffles at Happy Hours or meetings and
these net money for our "charity of the month" which is
designated each month by the Board of Directors.
We
work with no less than 12 charities including the Arizona Humane
Society, Christopher's Cure, and Greyhound Rescue.
Earlier this year, the AZPHC manned a water station at P.F.
Chang's Rock N Roll Marathon coming in second for "most
spirited," netting a prize of $750.
This was donated to Packages From Home, a non-profit organization
dedicated to sending care packages to
deployed American military heroes around the world, for postage.
We staged a "Packing Party" in May and sent off 50
packages.
Whether
it's helping with the Special Olympics or staging a Poker Tournament to
benefit
Arizona
's Hospice of the Valley, we're a pretty busy group!
Last month we had a spaghetti feed for UMOM (United Methodist
Outreach Ministries) and coming up in July will be our annual Christmas
in July party where we will collect toys for Andrea's Closet (for children
at local hospitals who face frightening medical treatments, to bring
them comfort and distraction from their pain by allowing them to choose
a special gift from a toy-filled closet.)
Our
premiere event of the year is Parrot
Grande at the Francisco Grande resort in beautiful
Casa Grande
,
AZ.
That's a lotta Grande and
it truly is that much phun. This
year in Sept. the Parrot Heads will be entertained by Coral Reefer
Madness, Brent Burns, Ray Cody and (what's-his-name?) Bob Karwin during
the long weekend. And once
again this year our PH Prize Patrol will collect a plethora of wonderful
silent auction and raffle prizes, the proceeds of which will benefit the
West
Valley
Child
Crisis Center
. Last year, we gave them a
check for $10,000 after Parrot Grande and we expect the same or more in
'09.
The
AZPHC has won many awards. For
the past 10 years we have participated in the Salsa Challenge and have
won numerous titles including Best Booth, Best Tasting Salsa, and Best
In Show. During this event's
Margarita Mix Off, the AZPHC still holds the record for most money
raised for the Arizona Hemophilia Association!
Our floats in SRP's Electric Light Parade in downtown
Phoenix
have taken first and second places over the years, too.
And
each year around October, the excitement builds for the "Jello Shot
Express," a bus trip to Vegas to see the man himself in concert.
Of course, drinking on interstate traveling vehicles is
prohibited, so each Parrot Head eats their share of Jello Shots on the
way! Contests for Best
Bribe, Freshest Flavor and Best Overall help build the anticipation for
that phunnest of all phun events – a live JB concert!
Check
us out on our website at www.parrotheads.org
and feel free to email us with any questions on any of our events –
we'd love to help any Parrot Head Club in any way possible.
