 Barefoot
Children of Ft Lauderdale PHC
Our focus is on social
needs and concerns of the local community, the preservation of our
environment and its ecosystem, and the continuing research in the
elimination of catastrophic disease. Through the ideals, the
teachings and the examples set forth in the life, the music and writings
of Jimmy Buffett, we strive to leave this world a little better than we
found it … and have a BLAST while doing so.

Fort Lauderdale is known for its beaches,
boats and Parrot Heads! The
Barefoot Children of Fort Lauderdale Parrot Head Club were founded in
1998 by a handful of Jimmy Buffett fans and today has turned into a
civic minded club of over 120 members who love to Leave the Planet a
little Better than we Found it and having a Blast while doing so!
The Barefoot Children have many charities
they like to support. The
McParrotheads support the local Ronald McDonald House by collecting pop
tops, toiletries and other need supplies as well as adopting a family
during the Holidays who are unable to return home.
Another charity that is near and dear to their hearts is the
Annual Alzheimer's Memory Walk as many members have had or currently
have a loved one afflicted by this terrible disease. Over the past two
years they have donated over $5,000 to support his cause.
This
past fall the club held their first Annual Taste of Parrotdise complete
with and Iron Chef Competition, a "taste" of local restaurant
fare, silent auction and raffles all to benefit the Cross Roads Food
Pantry. Other
charities they support include the American Cancer Society, Make A Wish
Foundation, Save the Manatee, Toys for Tots, the Ocean Conservancy and
they have adopted a Street for cleaning up in Dania Beach- a 1 mile
stretch (one way!)
The Barefoot Children also hold their
Annual Water Taxi Pub Crawl to benefit the American Lung Association of
Florida, where Parrot Heads and Phriends enjoy the local bars, riding
around on the famous Water Taxi, limbo games, Fruitcakes Hat Contest,
and ending with an evening of live music and dancing.
The Barefoot Children holds monthly
meetings (PHlockings) on the last Thursday of the month at the
Downtowner Saloon in Fort Lauderdale from 6pm-9pm where they enjoy food,
fun, trivia games, raffle items - they are all for partying with a
purpose!
This year they are looking forward to a
variety of activities including a Parrot Head Night at the Ball Park
with the Florida Marlins, Tailgate Parties on Fort Lauderdale Beach,
Raft Ups, their 11th Birthday Party Bash, and the great news of an
upcoming Party at Landshark Stadium with the Miami Dolphins!!
